The National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) is a mandatory examination for students seeking admission to the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) in Bhubaneswar and the University of Mumbai Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS) in Mumbai. Both NISER and UM- DAE CEBS were established in 2007 by the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. Their mission is to teach scientific personnel to conduct cutting-edge scientific research and to contribute to the scientific programs of the Department of Atomic Energy and other applied science institutes in the country. It will hold NEST in about 91 cities across India.

To be eligible for NEST 2021, applicants must have a Class 12th grade point average of at least 60% in the Science stream. They must also have completed the most recent qualifying examination in 2019 or 2020. Candidates from the General/OBC category must have a minimum aggregate of 60%. In comparison, candidates from the SC/ST/PwD category must have a minimum total of 55% in their class 12th qualifying examination.
